DJWorkshops.com is proud to be an Arts Award Welcome centre. This means I can support young people who are currently taking their Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Award.
Examples of previous work with Arts Award groups include:
1) "Arts Days" at Secondary Schools. In one day two groups of 30 students have a demonstration and then a supported "hands on" trial of DJing followed by an intensive question and answer session. All the young people's attempts at DJing are recorded and CDs are delivered to act as proof of each young person's participation. In conjunction with photographic evidence taken by the school staff and a written summary of the session done by each young person this constitutes all that is needed for all 60 young people to attain Part A (Participation) of their Bronze Award.
2) Intensive 3 to 5 session courses run in Youth Offending Team Summer Arts Colleges and with NEET, REOTAS or PRU/Offsite groups have delivered Part A (participation) and Part D (Apprenticeship) of Bronze or Part 1.1 of Unit 1 (Arts Challenge) and Unit 2 (Arts Leadership/Project) of Silver depending on the abilities of the young people in the group. I have run bronze and silver at the same time with different young people in the same group. The same course of sessions has also worked successfully in youth centres over less intensive courses which allow the young people more time to develop their portfolios at home.
3) I have led two young people through the entire Gold Award. Their story was accepted as a case study in the "ENYAN - Youth Arts Transforms Lives" National Campaign of 2011. The campaign report can be read by any member of ENYAN by following this link:
http://www.artswork.org.uk/campaigns-in-action Other users will need to register which can be done by following the same link.
In all the above examples I travelled to the youth groups' school or centre and supplied all the DJing equipment, recording equipment, insurance, risk assessments and CRB paperwork.

Offer 6
Silver Arts Award
I am available at a fee of £150 for one three hour session as an arts practitioner at Silver level. Three sessions booked together will cost only £400, a block booking of five sessions or more will cost only £125 each.
At each session, booked at the venue of your choice, I will supply any required DJ equipment and will be available to take part in any discussions, deliver additional learning, record audio of progress or performance and offer peer review, feedback and advice for the Arts Challenge action plan for Unit 1.1 and the Supervised Arts Leadership project plan for Unit 2.
Other possible sessions may include:
- A performance which is the culmination of a project or a challenge and which requires my equipment or which young people would like me to attend as a peer for future review purposes.
- Accompanying young people to events (Unit 1.2 part A) so I can join in discussion post event to encourage consideration of industry specific factors. NB. I cannot accompany young people to any event without your organisation supplying suitable additional staff.
- Depending on diaries and suitability of events, young people may be allowed to shadow myself or other professionals arranged via me at gigs or other workshops (Unit 1.2 part B).
- During any booked sessions I will be available for discussion regarding my career pathway and what future opportunities may be available to young people (Unit 1.2 part B).
The above is assuming your Arts Award candidates have already got basic DJing knowledge. If they have never tried DJing before it is recommended you begin with a "taster" session which would run along the lines of Offer 1 in my Arts Award Welcome special offers. This would simply establish a basic grounding in DJ skills and ensure all young people were confident of the path they were taking.
Sessions would be undertaken at a fee of £150 for three hours (plus 46p per mile from Leeds 6 area). Editing recorded audio will happen outside sessions and will incur an additional fee of £25 per hour of recorded audio regardless of how long the finished product is. Block bookings receive discounts, please
call for details.
At each session I will expect your young people to all have individual demands on the time available. For this reason I recommend you make planning each session with me part of the action plan and project plan for each young person and their advisor.
Once a date is booked for a session I will be available to discuss session planning with young people via Facebook and Myspace. I will also keep a mobile handy for your staff to use to arrange a time to be online for discussion of plans or in case of emergencies, eg. technical issues at a live performance.
Achieving all requirements for all young people will depend on the planning of your young people and their advisors.
If your young people have no advisors please
contact me as I am fully trained and could take on the entire Silver Award as a project if suitable.
Offers in the future will include Gold. Please call for details.
Arts Award Welcome Discount Offers General Information.
Audio and video recordings of each young person's DJing can be recorded as further evidence of participation. If this is required please ensure suitable consent has been obtained before my arrival and please prepare your staff to hold the camera where necessary!
I ask that you supply a dry/roofed or preferably indoor area with sturdy trestle style tables and a maintained 240V power supply. Where possible, please encourage the young people to bring their own CDs of their favourite music. This will help them maintain their artistic individuality throughout their participation.
To save time during the session I will ask for all worksheets to be left with me on completion so that I can add supporting notes where necessary. These will be returned with edited CDs of audio recordings and any photo or video evidence gathered during the session. The worksheets will also be examined for my own monitoring purposes but no individual contact details will be kept. If you would rather your young people kept their worksheets to continue making notes immediately after the session, please allow time for me to go through them and add supporting comments as required and/or photocopy them for my own monitoring purposes.
In one three hour session, time is extremely tight. If you would rather book more sessions to result in a better experience for all and better evidence for Arts Award purposes, please see the rest of my Arts Award Welcome offers or enquire about discount rates for extra sessions.
In addition if you would rather take control of video/ audio recording and editing, please contact me for discounted rates.
If possible, I would appreciate it if you could inform me of the final Arts Award pass rate of your group of young people for my own monitoring purposes.
At your request I will post you my current CRB, risk assessment, example worksheets and monitoring forms or any other information you may require.
Internet links which are shown on one of the handouts are included to stimulate further arts practice and development of arts skill and knowledge in line with Bronze Arts Award requirements. These links are for independent DJ related websites and forums and, as such, all the content found there cannot be guaranteed 100% suitable for all young people. Any young person who types 'DJ' into Google would find all these links very quickly, however, if you would prefer these links were removed from your handouts, please say so in advance.
I aim to be as amenable and negotiable as possible with all my clients so that all the young people I work with get the best experience possible.
Please also consult my general booking information page and, if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
