DJWorkshops.com is the Trading Name of James Reiss, a sole trader who runs DJ workshops and tuition for young people in a range of education and community settings.
As the sole representative of DJWorkshops.com I am committed to the well-being and safety of every child I work with. This policy outlines the principles which govern my work. To support this policy, DJWorkshops.com has attended several training days with regards to working as a workshop artist with young people. Good Practice Guidelines that cover every area of my work involving young people have been discussed and noted at all such training days. Please see my training pages for my most recent Child Protection Training courses undertaken.
The policy and Good Practice Guidelines apply to James Reiss. If, in the future, any staff or artists begin to work for DJWorkshops.com, whether on permanent, temporary or freelance contracts, or working as volunteers, the policy and Good Practice Guidelines will equally apply to them.
Organisations and individuals who wish to hire DJWorkshops.com are required to have their own Child Protection Policy and Procedures in place.
Principles
In all my work with young people I adhere to the following principles:
- The well-being and safety of each young person is my primary concern.
- I respect the rights and dignity of every young person I work with.
- Young people are treated equitably and sensitively, regardless of gender, ethnic origin, cultural background, sexual orientation or religion.
- Relationships between DJWorkshops.com and the young people I work with are based on mutual trust and respect.
- DJWorkshops.com seeks to achieve a balance between artistic outcomes and the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of the young people I work with.
- The feelings and concerns of any child or their parent/carer are listened to and acted upon. As I am not trained as a youth worker my action in such a circumstance is always to notify the relevant trained staff member of any issues raised.
- As the sole representative of DJWorkshops.com I have a responsibility to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of any child with whom I come into contact. Any suspicions or allegations of abuse are taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. As stated above, my response is always to inform the relevant trained youth/social worker.
- In any booking undertaken it is essential that a suitable adult is supplied by the organisation making the booking so that James Reiss is never left as the sole responsible adult in a room with a group of young people.
- In the future any possible staff recruitment and selection processes will include Criminal Records Bureau checks where appropriate.
Workshops run by DJWorkshops.com may also involve adults who are vulnerable, e.g. adults with learning difficulties. The principles outlined above apply equally to my work with vulnerable adults.
This policy is reviewed annually.
James Reiss.
